Starting a landscaping project can be daunting- but that's what we are here for! This is what you can expect throughout our design contract.
STEP 1: We start the process with a complimentary consultation. We set up a meeting with the homeowners (this works best if all contributing/ decision making members of the household are in attendance). We like to refer to this meeting as 'The First Date'. This is our chance to get to know you, and for you to get to know us. We will talk to you and learn what you want, how you plan on using your space (be it front yard or back) as well as your style and likes and dislikes. This process is imperative for the next design phase. A quote is also provided at the end of this meeting. Each quote is based on an estimate of hours needed for each clients specific design requirements, so quotes do vary house to house. The quote and contract are available to be signed at the first meeting, or the client has the option to have them emailed, to be signed at their leisure.
STEP 2: Once the quote is accepted and the contract signed, we will request a legal survey from the client. The client being able to provide a survey is extremely helpful in keeping design fees and hours low, and as well, they may be needed in the future for any permit applications to the City. Once a legal survey is provided, we will conduct a site visit (alone or with the client- whichever is preferable) to measure existing site structures, take grades, note windows and existing sit conditions, as well as take photos.
STEP 3: Preliminary concepts. Once the site visit is complete, we head back to the office and start designing. We put together rudimentary preliminary line drawings/a rough draft plan for the property. This is used to depict and to locate major usage areas and traffic flow. We then email this concept (sometimes 2) to the client for review- additionally, this can be done as an in-person meeting as well. This is where most of the changes and revisions occur. The client can then have a look at the drawing, and make suggestions on changes to each feature.
STEP 4: FINAL PLANS! Once we (the designer and the client) have finalized the rough layouts, then the real fun begins. The changes are made to the plan, and details get added. These details include all material selection, colours and patterns as well as plant placement and information, general installation information, and lighting if included in contract. We also create a 3D video of the proposed landscape space for each client. If need be, construction details are also included, as well as permit drawings for pools and fences (drawings for decks or sheds will not be provided), and grading drawings. We then set up a final meeting for presentation and review. The client will be given 1 hard copy of each drawing (except permit drawings- we will provide the amount required by the city), as well as a properly scaled pdf copy of every drawing, 3D images, and a movie file that is able to be shared with the contractor.
STEP 5: Finding A Contractor. Each situation is going to be different, but if you don't already have a contractor in mind, we have great working relationships with many contractors that we can recommend and put you in touch with. If you already have a contractor picked out, we will work with that contractor to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible.
